In a move aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of tribals displaced due to development projects, the Madhya Pradesh government has approved a revised rehabilitation policy. The new policy mandates that tribals displaced from their lands will receive a minimum of 4 hectares of land for agriculture, irrespective of the extent of their earlier landholding.
Additionally, a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 10 lakh will be provided to each displaced family to aid in their relocation and rehabilitation. The policy also outlines provisions for preference in employment opportunities in the projects causing displacement and the establishment of model residential townships with amenities like schools and healthcare facilities.
